in Stone: Common Clues to Land Use Before Reforestation -
Join Forest Society
naturalist Dave Anderson in an introductory field-based workshop
examining land use history at The Fells. A 20-minute indoor presentation
precedes a hike to local woodland sites containing cultural artifacts
like cellars, wells, stone walls, stone piles, fences and farm
implements to determine their age and significance in relation to farm
abandonment and reforestation.

workshop with photographer and owner of Portrait Design Photography,
Larry Harper, focuses on camera techniques and settings, framing the
picture, establishing a goal, direct and indirect lighting and using
nature to get the best outdoor portrait. Use live models in practice
shoots. Bring your own film or digital camera and two rolls of
36-exposure film or a 1-gig camera card.

attractive wreath from polypore mushrooms and other natural items. A
brief walk through the forest to gather supplies is followed by a
