Landscaping at the
Water's Edge -
If you reside in New
Hampshire than you live in a watershed—the land area that drains into a
surface water body such as a lake, river, wetland or coastal estuary—and
the actions you take in your landscape can have far reaching effects on
water quality. NH Master Gardener Kiki Schneider discusses how to make
decisions about landscape design and maintenance that reduce pollution
and environmental degradation in our New Hampshire lakes, ponds, rivers
and streams. The NH Cooperative Extension companion publication
Landscaping at the Water’s Edge: An Ecological Approach will be

Rock
Garden Celebration at The Fells -
Tour the Clarence
Hay Rock Garden in late May when hundreds of plants’ kaleidoscopic
blooms create a dazzling display! Constructed in the 1930s, this south
facing garden features stone steps and paths, alongside crevices and
islands; gravity-fed pools and stream; and over 600 species and
cultivars of rock garden and alpine plants. Native granite transported
from nearby Sunset Hill completes the microclimatic conditions required
for the demanding rock garden plants, and today, the hardiest of the
original plants remain. Go on an organized tour of the garden at 10am,
noon or 2pm. From 10am to noon consult with experts in the Gatehouse
Courtyard and shop for hard to find rock garden and alpine plants with
specialty vendors and the Fells self-serve Plant Stand is also stocked
especially for this event with many wonderful and hardy alpines. Members
free, non-members pay daily Fells admission.
