A Forested
Hill, Pristine Brook and Sparkling Lake -
Join Dave Anderson,
Society for the Protection of NH Forests Director of Education
andKathleen Stowell Lake Sunapee Protective Association Education
Director and learn about the relationship between the land use history
of Sunset Hill, the water quality of pristine Beech Brook and their
respective contributions to the sparkling character of Lake Sunapee.
From headwater springs deep in the Forest Society’s Hay Forest
Reservation on Sunset Hill to it’s outlet on the natural shoreline at
The Fells, Beech Brook flows through protected, conservation land and is
unique in the Lake Sunapee watershed. After centuries of farming, the
last 18 years of water quality data from LSPA monitoring of Lake Sunapee
tributaries reveals that Beech Brook ranks among the cleanest brooks
with the lowest phosphorus and specific conductivity, two reliable
measures of human activities in the watershed. Co-sponsored by the Lake
Sunapee Protective Association.
